They were among several families and individuals who visited the animal haven for the Second Chance for Love adopt-a-thon at the weekend.
The national event aims to encourage people to adopt pets at SPCA havens, and has helped about 1000 cats and dogs find homes in the past two years.
The Otago haven has more than 60 cats and kittens and 10 dogs awaiting adoption.
Executive officer Phil Soper said 12 cats and kittens found new homes by yesterday afternoon and he expected more to be adopted through the week.
