Opoho School pupil Lyell Owen (8) playfully tugs Strider the Zebra's tail during Walk n Wheel Day yesterday morning.
The day was part of the Walk n Wheel to School Week, an initiative that involved more than 10,000 pupils from 54 Otago schools.
The Sport Otago initiative is designed to promote ''active'' transport for schoolchildren.
Walk n Wheel co-ordinator Kate Mossman said many schools yesterday organised ''walking buses'' to transport their children and made scooter and cycle obstacle courses for pupils to use at lunchtime.
Police also helped check cycle safety.
