A bomb threat against Logan Park High School was traced to a Dunedin address after armed police converged on the school yesterday morning.
Deputy principal Peter Hills said police traced the prank call to a Dunedin landline and were going to visit the address.
"It was a prank call [of] someone intimating they had a detonator and a bomb,'' he said.
Police said the cordon was lifted early in the afternoon after they cleared the grounds.
Police, who worked with school management, were satisfied everyone on site was accounted for and there was no immediate threat.
Police declined to confirm they had traced the call to a Dunedin address.
They were continuing to investigate the source of the threat.
Mr Hills said he had no idea what the motivation for the prank call was, but speculated it could have something to do with it being the end of the school holidays or simply the fact construction work going on at the school featured in yesterday's Otago Daily Times.
Police always took such threats seriously, he said.
No pupils were at the school, but contractors were there working on the new music block.
