A Dunedin City Council spokesman said specialist cranes would dismantle the scaffolding roof structure and concrete counterweights, which were in place over the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, and relocate them above the Otago Arts Society.
The cranes will remain in place for about two weeks.
The area around the station is cordoned off and would be off limits to pedestrians and vehicles while the crane lifts were happening, he said.
The daily operations of the Otago Art Society and the Hall of Fame would be temporarily affected.
The lifts were scheduled to be completed and the station open for business by September 15, provided there was no adverse weather.
The full restoration project was still scheduled to be completed in 2023, he said.
