MetService meteorologist Luis Fernandes said it would be a relatively settled weekend, with a couple of "weakish fronts" moving over the region on Saturday and Sunday.
"That is going to bring what looks like just scattered rain, so at the moment, it doesn’t look like we’re going to see any significant rainfall systems.
"The rain that is around shouldn’t be too disruptive."
Because the fronts were relatively weak, the air flow over the southern regions would remain northerly, Mr Fernandes said.
"And that means the whole region remains within a warmer air mass.
"So temperatures will still be quite high, even though there will be periods of cloud and ... a few patches of rain here and there.
"It’s actually going to be quite warm, especially considering we’re well into autumn now.
"It looks like many areas will see temperatures above 20°C over the weekend, especially inland.
"It might be our last taste of summer.
"Going into April it becomes much less likely that we see these higher temperatures."
It would be a good weekend for outdoor activities, he said.
