Restructuring at Southern Community Laboratories will result in four jobs being relocated from Dunedin to Auckland later this year.
Chief executive Dr Peter Gootjes confirmed a new business unit had been created and accounting functions would be consolidated.
Healthscope Ltd, which owned the laboratories, would centralise SCL with two other subsidiaries, Labtests and Gribbles Pathology.
Five people in Dunedin were affected by the changes.
However, one new position would be created here and jobs would be available in Auckland if people were willing to apply.
"It's a straightforward business decision and it's unfortunate for the people involved," Dr Gootjes said.
The changes were still being finalised.
