A man allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to stab another man after getting into an argument outside a Dunedin supermarket, police say.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police were called to Pak’nSave Dunedin at 3pm on Monday.
A 35-year-old man got into a disagreement with a 37-year-old man in the supermarket’s carpark, Snr Sgt Bond said.
The pair exchanged words before the 35-year-old struck the other man with a cosh, whacking him several times on the arms and head.
"They got into a scuffle, ended up on the floor and then the 35-year-old has pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the other one," he said.
Supermarket staff intervened and the 37-year-old was able to run away.
Officers arrested the 35-year-old and invoked a search warrant, recovering two knives and the cosh.
The man is due to appear in court tomorrow, charged with possessing an offensive weapon and assault with a weapon.
