It's all fun and games until someone loses an i.
Hilarie Guan (4) built a kite and decorated it with a picture of a penguin and her name to fly at a Wild Dunedin nature festival event yesterday.
On the inaugural flight at Larnach Castle's Camp Estate on Otago Peninsula yesterday the kite returned with the penguin but the second i from her name was gone with the wind.
Hilarie's father, Simon Guan, said the day had been "fun'' despite losing the letter and they would return to the estate next year to fly a kite with greater symmetry at the event.
Larnach Castle and Camp Estate spokeswoman Deborah Price said the event, The Flying Penguin, had prizes including kites flown the highest, furthest and longest.
The event was limited to the 40 children who built kites at a workshop at Dunedin Public Library on Saturday.
Larnach Castle became involved with the festival because many visitors to the castle and estate were attracted to Otago Peninsula for its wildlife.
Another festival event, Larnach Castle garden tour and afternoon tea, sold out on Saturday.
"We were pretty pleased,'' Mrs Price said.
