Reunion organiser Paul Grainger, of Dunedin, said there had been 220 pupils in the 1960 intake at King’s High School.
While about 50 had died, around 40 gathered at the school yesterday to reminiscence and rejoice.
While they had planned to celebrate the 60th anniversary, Covid had got in the way.
Some old boys had done quite well for themselves, including Phil Connolly, who had become the biggest funeral director in Queensland, and Barrie Neilson, whose company Sailing Holidays operated more than 150 yachts in the Greek Islands, Mr Grainger said.
Quite a few had also achieved doctorates in their fields, he said.
The former pupils received a tour around the school, although most were too busy catching up with each other to notice much.
The only building which remained from their years was the school’s gymnasium, which was a new building when they were pupils, he said.
Although the look of the school had changed a lot, its spirit was still unchanged, Mr Grainger said.
"It’s a great school."
