Keeping school children safe while they are outside the school environment is the aim of a new project by Rotary Club of Dunedin South and Otago Motor Club Trust.
Arthur Street School principal and Rotary member Bruce Robertson said his school would test the project and would approach other schools in Dunedin to see if they were interested.
"It's for children who are walking outside their school environment and need to be seen," he said.
Arthur Street pupils regularly walked across Upper Stuart St on their way to Moana Pool and he said the school's vests would be well used.
The aim was to provide schools with two sets of 50 vests, which were worth about $10 each, Mr Robertson said.
The trust was providing the funding and the club was organising the sourcing and branding.
