ACC clerical worker Sam White (22) could be off on the ultimate OE next month after being selected as one of eight New Zealand semifinalists in an international competition organised by recruitment company Adecco.
Ten winners will be chosen globally for Around the World in 80 Jobs, to jet off next month to work in 10 cities - New York, Shanghai, Athens, London, Toronto, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Melbourne, Vancouver and Auckland - over a three-week period.
Mr White was selected after he submitted a two-minute video of himself dancing to a Britney Spears song at Logan Park, dressed only in red underpants, during the snowfall on May 28.
''I thought I'd get creative to try to stand out. I wanted to show the environment that got me ticking,'' he said yesterday.
''I want to experience new things and see what's out there. It's all about the experience and seeing new things and, hopefully, having some gritty adventures.''
Mr White has been overseas only once, to Australia in 2009.
''The jobs could be anything from cleaning in New York to scuba diving in Queensland,'' Mr White said.
''It's a whole random bunch of things.''
The semifinalists were chosen based on their professionalism, their desire to work and the creativity of their video presentation.
The other New Zealand semifinalists are Bill Liu (23), of Auckland; Victoria Martinez-Smith (21), of Auckland; Joshua Wong (20), of Hamilton; Ryan Beattie (20), of Palmerston North; Andrew Burt (21), of Wellington; Ursula Keay (23), of Nelson; and Amber Cole (20), of Invercargill.
The three New Zealand finalists will be chosen on Thursday and the winner announced on June 24.
