About 30 people in 12 teams took part in the competition, creating entries including a turtle, a shark, pyramids and even a Lego Pirates of the Caribbean figure, as well as the more traditional sand forts on display.
It was the first time the event had been held as part of the Long Beach Amenities Society's annual holiday programme, which had been running "on and off" for about 20 years, vice-president Mary Allison said.
