An unofficial report from a weather station in the seaside suburb had the temperature at 22degC about 4pm.

Temperatures also soared further inland.

Alexandra hit 20degC in the early afternoon, according to the MetService, and Queenstown reached a high of 17degC.

The good weather will continue today, but it will be slightly cloudier tomorrow and rain is forecast for late on Wednesday, continuing into Thursday.
