Hyde St keg party back on the agenda

Hyde St tenants will meet other keg party stakeholders today to further discuss plans for this year's party.

A date has been proposed, but not publicly confirmed, while a series of meetings takes place to determine how the party should proceed.

Already there has been discussion about restricting numbers and allowing each Hyde St tenant a certain number of invitations.

On Monday, a meeting was held for University of Otago students to voice their opinions about the annual party.

The Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) helped facilitate the meeting, which was ''quiet'', a spokesman said.

Stakeholders meeting today will include representatives of the university, Hyde St tenants and landlords, police, St John, the Fire Service and Dunedin City Council.

About 5000 people attended last March's keg party which featured 15 arrests, the collapse of a roof overloaded with partygoers and the treatment of 80 people by St John.

Concerns were raised about the number of non-students attending, and there were calls to reduce numbers.
