A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said crews from the St Kilda and Dunedin stations were called about 2.30pm.
Appliances from Roslyn, Lookout Point, and water tankers from Dunedin and Portobello were also sent to the scene but were stood down when they arrived.
At 4pm, crews were still on scene dampening down hotspots and removing
roofing to make sure there were no issues, the spokesman said.
There were no injuries and nobody was home at the time of the blaze, he said.
The fire is being investigated.
