A Dunedin hotel is likely to reopen its doors to guests just a week after a fire ripped through one of its rooms.
A blaze at the Kingsgate Hotel on Monday night caused guests and staff to flee as firefighters fought to control the blaze.
The vice-president of operations for the Millennium, Copthorne and Kingsgate Hotels NZ, Matt Taplin, of Auckland, said it was hoped the hotel, and the majority of its rooms, would reopen next week.
"We will have a number of aims out, but we are aiming to reopen next week," Mr Taplin said.
The hotel was still being assessed by insurance assessors yesterday, he said.
A Fire Service investigation found the fire started near a bed in a room on the second floor of the 55-room hotel.
One room and a nearby hallway were extensively damaged in the fire, four other rooms were damaged by heat and smoke, and the entire building also had smoke damage.
