The Otago Daily Times "Help the Hospice" campaign has reached its target of $200,000 thanks to support from the Otago community.
The largest donation of the campaign was received yesterday when the L. N. Lemon Charitable Trust gave $50,000, bringing the total to $260,500.
Otago Community HospiceTrust chairman Stuart McLauchlan said he was delighted with the response, which came mainly from charities and individuals.
"The support from the community has been absolutely outstanding. We're thrilled with it."
The lack of commercial support could be an indication of the financial times, he said.
Allied Press chairman and managing director Julian Smith was also pleased with the support the campaign received.
"The cause has won the hearts of the community," he said.
"Hopefully, with a week to go, we will see contributions from some of our bigger companies in the region, which would round off the appeal on a strong note."
The appeal ends on December 23.
