Richard Crabb, of Auckland, stands in front of his 12m American motorhome.

He bought it from a mate a couple of months ago to bring his friend Debbie Benson to see Sir Elton John perform in Dunedin last night.

She bought the tickets and he bought the bus.

The pair were in one of 55 self-contained camper vans or buses staying in the car park of the Dunedin Ice Stadium yesterday as nearby holiday parks were full.

New Zealand Motor Caravan Association member Neil Kennedy — one of two wardens at the site — said he was pleased the temporary site was able to alleviate some of Dunedin’s accommodation issues.

NZMCA member's were wardens with no power to prevent anyone that wasn't self contained certified from parking up there..
