About 200 people competed in the 31st Tautuku Fishing Club competition on Saturday, in 60 boats in brilliant weather, fishing from Moeraki to Bull Creek.

The Festival Cup for the heaviest fish, went to Dwayne Lewis, with a blue shark weighing 53.9kg. The exact number of fish caught was unavailable.

All sharks caught were taken away for research by University of Otago marine science staff, while the fresh fish caught was given to the Otago Community Hospice and the Montecillo Veterans Home and Hospital.

Prizes valued at $13,500 were handed out.
