The Southern District Health Board hopes to appoint a permanent chief executive in December, Government documents show.
The board has started a tender process on a government-run website to choose a recruitment company to conduct an international search for the position.
Carole Heatly resigned last month from the embattled organisation, and an interim chief executive, Chris Fleming, will run the board for six months, starting next month.
The tender document says the successful company must be able to provide "post-hire care'' as well as running the recruitment process.
"SDHB is looking for a credible service provider who has the capability, experience and networks to run a thorough national and international recruitment process with a positive outcome,'' it said.
"It is critical that the new CEO has the requisite vision, skills and expertise to provide leadership through a dynamic and exciting period at SDHB.''
According to a timeline in the tender document, a new chief executive would be confirmed on December 9.
