Three homes in the Dunedin harbourside suburb of St Leonards were burgled in the past two weeks.
Senior Sergeant Mark Donaldson, of Dunedin, said the first burglary happened at a Harrier Rd property on March 23, with a St Leonards Dr home targeted the following day.
On Thursday morning another Harrier Rd address was reported burgled, he said.
Snr Sgt Donaldson said it was unknown how the alleged offenders gained entry to the homes, and they had taken a "pretty random collection of items," including computer equipment.
"When it comes to daytime burglaries they just take whatever they can grab."
At the other end of town, police are investigating after three commercial premises were burgled in South Dunedin over the past month.
A police spokeswoman said copper was taken from a premises in Burns and Neville Sts, near the former site of Carisbrook Stadium, on March 12 and again on Wednesday night.
Another commercial property in Neville St was burgled last month, when electrical transformers were taken on the night of March 14, she said. On March 25, electrical equipment, including battery cells and copper cords, was allegedly stolen from a Midlands St premises.
The spokeswoman said police were increasing their activity in the area.
