Two Otago women, both entering exhibition gardens for the first time, have scored at the Ellerslie International Flower Show in Christchurch.
Judges announced yesterday that Emily McEwan, of Outright Landscape Design, East Taieri, had won gold for her courtyard-style garden ''Outside the Box''.
Across all categories, from school gardens to floral art, 15 gold medals were awarded.
Sally Brown, of Waitati, was awarded silver for ''Passion'', a line-up of some 3000 plants, all with pink flowers.
''It's amazing,'' Mrs McEwan said, on learning of her success. She admitted it had been her dream to do well.
She was appreciative of the efforts of Gavin Slaughter, of Christchurch's Evergreen Landcare, who did the construction.
Two Otago floral artists also enjoyed success at the flower show.
For their entries, Marion Partridge, of North Otago, and Barbara Watt, of North Otago, both received merit awards.
