School career pathways co-ordinator Lloyd Agnew spent about four hours at the South Dunedin school yesterday, cleaning graffiti off about a dozen doors, windows and walls.
The buildings were tagged on Monday night and Mr Agnew said he and others in the community were angry at the damage. He queried what needed to be done to stop it.
"This is an ongoing problem here because it's in the shelter. We find condoms and broken bottles and this . . ." he said, pointing to graffiti in black and white spray paint.
"They use this little spot for parties. It's quite depressing because the school's just been painted."
Several staff members cleaned the spray paint off yesterday and Mr Agnew said the walls and doors would need to be repainted.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said schools seemed to be targets at the moment.
Several Dunedin schools had been burgled recently and there was an incident of wilful damage at Forbury School during the weekend. However, none of these incidents was believed to be related to the tagging at Sara Cohen School.
"In line with hospitals and churches, it's poor taste to target schools. But really, no building should be tagged," he said.
