Dr Orchiston could barely contain her excitment after learning New Zealand's global music sensation would perform in the Dunedin Town Hall on October 29.
''It's fantastic news. It's awesome,'' Dr Orchiston, a 39-year-old University of Otago research fellow, said.
She had enjoyed following the Kiwi singer's international success and her ''amazing concerts around the world''.
''I think it's fantastic for Dunedin and I think we'll get a really good crowd for her here because loads of people will want to see her.''
Dr Orchiston said she would ''definitely'' be chasing tickets for herself and son Will (10).
Tickets will go on sale at 9am on September 1.
Yesterday, Lorde was named as a presenter for this weekend's MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, as well as a finalist for Best Female Video and Best Rock Video.
