Work is progressing on excavation for the new Mosgiel pool building at Memorial Park.

Dunedin City Council group manager, parks and recreation, Scott MacLean said the excavation was 70% complete.

Concrete slabs had been poured for the pool balance tanks and work on foundations was progressing and would be ready for installation in the new year.

More than 400 truckloads of soil had been removed from the site and repurposed on local farms.

Trees removed from the site were given to local charities for firewood. The old pool was being used by Cook Brothers as a team facility and covered area for material preparation, he said.

Construction is expected to be complete by the mid-2023.
