Gin Wigmore (above) performs at the Classic Hits Winery Tour at Logan Park, Dunedin, last night.

The Mutton Birds and Avalanche City also played at the event, with the Dunedin concert the 11th of a 17-stop tour.

Deck chairs, rugs and picnic baskets were commonplace, as were woollen hats and coats, in the 2250-strong audience.

Dancing proved a good way to keep warm and Avalanche City got the younger audience members up and moving with its smash hit Love Love Love.

The older section of the crowd flocked to the stage when the Mutton Birds, who had not played together for 10 years, started their set.

The opening bars of Dominion Road attracted cheers as the sun broke through the gloomy clouds.

"Welcome to summer in Dunedin," frontman Don McGlashan said.

The audience was later invited to help with some "entry level" singing on Nature.

By the time crowd favourite Gin Wigmore took the stage, the sun had gone down, prompting her to exclaim, "This is wicked. God, it's ... freezing though, isn't it?

"You look like a bunch of penguins all rugged up and dancing."

When tour co-promoter Brent Eccles was asked if he had been concerned about the weather, he said "you can't plan it", but that the show "can pretty much be played rain, hail or shine".

The next concert will be at Olssens Vineyard, Cromwell, tomorrow.
