An incident, in which a policeman was assaulted during a routine breath-test stop in Northeast Valley late on Saturday, brought a 21-year-old man before the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
Keiran Douglas Aitkenhead, unemployed, faces an indictably laid charge of injuring (Constable) Gregory MacMillan Park with intent to injure him, on February 5.
At his first appearance on the charge, before a justice of the peace on Monday, Aitkenhead was remanded in custody by consent to yesterday and granted interim name suppression.
Represented by duty solicitor Andrew Dawson yesterday, he did not apply for bail and did not seek continued interim suppression.
Mr Dawson asked for a remand without plea for a week "for legal aid to be completed and a lawyer assigned to him".
Judge Stephen O'Driscoll remanded Aitkenhead in custody to next Tuesday.
