They had a choice of three courses, including the East Otago High School grounds, a slightly longer course and a 2km road course from Palmerston along Horse Range Rd, Factory Rd and Stour St back to the high school.
The "Health and Fitness" theme this year was a good opportunity to introduce the new event, one of the organisers Heather McGregor, of Palmerston, said.
A Pink Ribbon morning tea will also be held in the upstairs room at the Palmerston Four Square supermarket this Friday at 10am to raise funds.
The guest speaker will be Katrina McAra, of KM Personal Training, who will talk about health, fitness and nutrition.
