Laxon (35) sustained bites from a police dog and will appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
A police spokeswoman said Laxon was seen driving a stolen Silver Holden Astra car in the Ravensbourne area about 1.30pm.Laxon was wanted on two warrants for failing to appear in court earlier this year, related to burglary charges.
He ignored police signals to stop and a high-speed pursuit ensued.
At Sawyers Bay, Laxon drove the Astra into a police car in Station Rd.
Both vehicles were damaged, the spokeswoman said.Laxon then drove the Astra to Port Chalmers where he abandoned the "undriveable" car in Currie St.
A police dog and handler tracked the man.
Laxon was bitten by the dog and apprehended by officers and taken into police custody in Mary St.
Laxon received medical treatment for the minor bites, she said.
Police thanked the public for their assistance.
Wickliffe Tce resident Maryann Clinch said she saw Laxon "flying around a corner" to Currie St .
Despite the extensive damage to the Astra, it was driven "quickly" by a man wearing a black hoodie.
The chase was a "bit of excitement" in a usually sleepy suburb, she said.
