Four men have been arrested after armed police stopped a car in North Dunedin early this morning, finding methamphetamine worth up to $42,000 and $7500 cash.
Police stopped the car, which was suspected of carrying the drug, about 4.30am on Castle St.
Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis said the drug was destined for the streets of Southland and was estimated to have a street value of between $28,000 and $42,000.
Four Southland men aged from 25 to 40 will appear in the Dunedin District Court today, charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.
Police believe the drug had been sourced from the upper North Island and say it would have caused considerable harm had it made it to streets.
"Police will continue to be relentless in targeting illegal activity such as this. The gains made through these kinds of activities are at the expense of the welfare of our communities, and our young people," Det Snr Sgt Inglis said.
