Kiwi Shuttles has accepted full responsibility for two Dunedin visitors' missed flights on Tuesday.
Michele Ong, of Auckland, had booked a shuttle to the airport with her sister, but it did not show up.
Subsequently, they missed their flight and had to buy two replacement tickets as well as pay for a taxi fare to the airport at a total cost of $530.
Kiwi Shuttle director Toni Seiuli told the Otago Daily Times yesterday "miscommunication" had caused the incident.
Miss Ong had emailed the company on Saturday and believed her booking had been accepted.
However, Mrs Seiuli said the booking had never been confirmed and the pair were not on the booking list.
She accepted responsibility "without question" and said "as soon as we get a receipt we will send them a cheque" to reimburse their extra travel costs.
The company did not make a habit of leaving people behind, but it had been inundated with about 1200 students booking transport for the start of the semester break this week, she said.
Mrs Seiuli reiterated to passengers if their shuttle did not turn up within 15 minutes of the booking time, they should contact the company so alternative arrangements could be made.
