The blame for "disappointing" attendance figures for the New Zealand International Film Festival screenings in Dunedin this month has been put on bad weather and the Olympics.
Festival director Bill Gosden said 14,466 attended the Dunedin leg of the festival this year, 1000 admissions down on last year.
The 7% fall was "disappointing", he said.
"We think it is attributable largely to terrible weather over the opening weekend — and maybe the Olympics. Response to programme was great and visiting film-makers all remarked on what a great time they had with Dunedin audiences."
The screenings were at the Regent Theatre and Rialto between August 4 and 21.
The top films were New Zealand documentaries, Poi-E: The Story of our Song and Le Ride, Mr Gosden said.
Other films popular in Dunedin were The Country Doctor, I, Daniel Blake, The Red Turtle and Captain Fantastic.
