Australian-based media company Fairfax has made eight Dunedin workers redundant.
The company bought the Dunedin-based D-Scene last month.
The Southland Times general manager Gareth Codd confirmed the redundancies at the title when contacted yesterday.
Mr Codd said those made redundant at the D-Scene were the paper's news editor, three layout sub-editors and four administration staff.
Production would be centralised at The Southland Times' Invercargill operation, he said.
One staff member had since been re-employed in The Southland Times' Queenstown office, and three others applied for positions at Fairfax's sub-editing "hubs" in Wellington and Christchurch.
Redundancies for 11 sub-editing positions at The Southland Times' office in Invercargill were announced to staff on September 26 following last month's announcement Fairfax planned to axe 160 jobs in New Zealand in a cost-cutting programme.
