Ex-Dunedin designer in Project Runway

Otago Polytechnic graduate Duncan Chambers-Watson will be a contestant in US hit series Project Runway, it has been announced.

He graduated from Otago Polytechnic last year with a Bachelor of Design (Fashion), with distinction.

The will not be his first foray on to an international stage: he gained a scholarship to attend Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, and participated in Shanghai Fashion Week through Otago Polytechnic's partnership with the Shanghai University of Engineering Science.

He was also recently invited to submit his portfolio for consideration by Vogue Italia New Talents.

His graduation collection featured at the 2015 iD Dunedin railway show, as well as in the exhibition A Darker Eden: Fashion from Dunedin, held in Auckland this year, a collaboration between Otago Polytechnic and the New Zealand Fashion Museum.

Since the start of this year, Duncan had been working as a pattern maker in the studio at WORLD.

Otago Polytechnic Academic Leader (Fashion) Dr Margo Barton said the whole institution was "incredibly excited we'll be seeing him on the Project Runway catwalk!"

"Duncan has a strong vision as a designer, which he has truly nurtured in his time in Dunedin.

"He's not afraid to take risks, while also having a great sense of what seems crazy, but just might work!"

Kiwis will be able to keep up with his progress in the competition as Project Runway Series 14 will screen on SKY's VIBE channel.

Chambers-Watson is the second New Zealander to feature on the show, after Sean Kelly won series 13 last year.
