Evening 'gallery crawl' part of week

Dunedin art galleries will be burning the midnight oil this month.

The Otago University Students Association art week will feature an evening gallery tour on September 21 to showcase Dunedin artists and galleries.

Dunedin's vibrant arts culture and compact CBD made it ideal for "White Night: The Dunedin Late Night Gallery Crawl", OUSA events co-ordinator Kitty Brown said yesterday.

The exhibitions and installations include screenings of two 16mm Len Lye films at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery; former Dunedin artist Simon Attwooll's latest showing, "Not Afraid", at A Gallery; new works by sculptor Hannah Kidd at Milford Gallery; and a Rohan Wealleans exhibition at the Brett McDowell Gallery.

The Dowling St Studios will be open late, with a group show by resident artists, including Craig Freeborn, Sam Foley and Desi Liversage; and the Blue Oyster Art Project Space has a tribute to the Rugby World Cup, "Play Off", featuring works by Edith Amituanai, Scott Eady and James Oram.

City galleries De Novo, Temple, Quadrant and Rice and Beans will also be open late, while the Allbell Studios will host an open house to meet and chat with resident artists.
