Jamie Duncan Leigh (24) was jailed for two years, three months on a slew of sex charges when he appeared before the Oamaru District Court in August.
He was back in court yesterday - this time in Dunedin - after admitting counts of possessing ammunition, a restricted weapon, cannabis, drug utensils and unlawfully taking a vehicle.
The owner of the car had parked it near Cromwell College rugby grounds on June 18 and planned to leave it overnight as he had been drinking after the game.
But at 3am, Leigh broke into the Nissan and drove off.
The next day, a member of the public found the vehicle burned out on the edge of town.
Leigh was not charged with destroying the car, Judge Dominic Flatley said.
The court heard how police inquiries led them to the defendant's home where they executed a search warrant on July 1.
There they found evidence tying Leigh to the stolen vehicle and other items which led to him facing four more charges.
There were six rounds of ammunition, a can of pepper pray, a cannabis bong and 42 cannabis seeds in Leigh's bedroom.
Counsel Russell Checketts emphasised there were no weapons in the house and said the firearms rounds were left over from days in a previous job.
Leigh had bought the pepper spray over the internet and did not know it was illegal, he said.
But Judge Flatley was sceptical.
``I struggle to accept your explanation,'' he said.
``I expect you did [know it was illegal] and had it for the purpose of defending yourself at times.''
He jailed Leigh for 11 months, to be added to his current prison term.
The sex offending took place from 2012 to 2015 and involved more than 50 incidents of abuse against a girl who was 9 when it began.
