Dunedin's contribution to the Christchurch earthquake disaster in September was recognised with a certificate of appreciation in a ceremony at the Dunedin Central Fire Station yesterday.

"It's just to say thank you for your efforts during the Christchurch earthquake," New Zealand Fire Service national commander Mike Hall, of Wellington, said yesterday.

An award was presented to the Dunedin station and another to civilian office staff.

"Everyone in the whole organisation across the country had to join in and help," Mr Hill said.

"We had people in Christchurch from all around the country. Something like this goes on for weeks and weeks and you have to roster people around that. It's fortunate we have a national Fire Service to call on at times like that."

Presentations were also held in in Christchurch on Monday and in Invercargill last night, Mr Hall said.
