Dunedin drivers disappoint police for second day

Dunedin Police have been left unimpressed with motorists for unsafe driving once again, following another intersection operation yesterday.

Sergeant Anthony Bond said police, who conducted the compliance check at the Jervious and Crawford St intersection, said it was disappointing to see a number of people not wearing seatbelts including professional drivers, using mobile phones and running the lights.

It follows an intersection operation being carried out at St Andrew St and Castle street on Wednesday, during which police were disappointed by the number of motorists trying to "squeeze" the orange light and running red lights.

Sgt Bond said enforcement action and education was taken and police would continue to monitor those intersections to ensure the roads were safe.

Another operation was planned for today at 3pm but the location was not confirmed.

If enforcement action and education is taking place, I hope they're focusing on all relevant rules - including vehicles parking or coming to a stop in cycle lanes.
