Dunedin cafe workers win

Two Dunedin women have taken top titles in a national cafe competition.

Rebecca Kellett and Michelle Ludlow were among winners of the 11th annual Wild Bean Cafe awards, held by BP, the finals of which were in Auckland recently.

Mrs Ludlow, the cafe team leader of BP Connect Southern, won the national cafe team leader title, having won the South Island title last year.

She has worked for BP for almost six years and first entered the competition last year.

Mrs Kellett, of BP Connect Bays Junction, won the South Island supreme barista title and was one of seven national finalists.

She beat 11 other supreme baristas from Christchurch, Timaru, Queenstown, Rolleston and Dunedin.

Mrs Kellett has worked for BP for about four years and first entered the annual competition as a rookie barista.

Last year's national champion in the rookie barista competition, Claudette McMaster, was also from BP Connect Bays Junction, where she worked as cafe team leader. Store manager Rebecca Young said it was great for employees' hard work and talent to be nationally recognised.

Wild Bean Cafe general manager Frank van Hattum said the awards were established to recognise and reward excellence by staff throughout the 81 stores nationwide.
