A woman has been charged after a collision outside the Dunedin Railway Station left a motorcyclist seriously injured.
The 24-year-old appeared before the Dunedin District Court this afternoon charged with driving while disqualified in Stuart St and refusing to undergo a compulsory impairment test.
The defendant was remanded in custody without entering pleas to the charges and will return to court later this month.
Police said she was driving a Toyota Camry at speed from the Octagon towards the train station when the crash happened at 11pm yesterday.
The woman turned left into Castle St – the wrong way on the one-way system - and struck the man, who was stationary on his motorcycle, Constable Nick Turner said.
A police spokeswoman said the man was seriously hurt and is understood to be in a stable condition in hospital.
The remains of a burnt-out motorcycle could be seen on the footpath in front of the Railway Station and a car in the middle of the garden area this morning.
The area was cordoned off earlier today and security guards helped to keep the scene clear.
A scene examination would continue today, police said.
