A recidivist drink-driver was found by Dunedin police sleeping inside his still-running vehicle yesterday, with his foot on the brake and a bottle of beer in his hand.
"It was a disaster waiting to happen," Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said.
Police were called to a Manse St hotel car park at 6.30am where they found the "extremely" drunk 49-year-old company director slumped inside his automatic vehicle, which was in drive.
"The only thing stopping his car was his foot on the brake."
The man was taken to the Dunedin Central Police Station where three times he was asked to complete a breath test, which he refused. He also refused to give a blood sample, Snr Sgt Benn said.
The man, who has seven previous drink-driving convictions, was charged with refusing to supply a blood sample and is expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court next week.
