One Easter drink-drive arrest

Only one drink-driver was processed by the rural drive group or traffic alcohol group when the police units operated around Central Otago over the long Easter weekend.

A woman was charged with drink-driving and dealt with in the Alexandra police station on Sunday at 8.30pm, three hours after the end of the annual Clyde Wine and Food Festival.

The single arrest compared with eight arrests for excess breath-alcohol levels in the corresponding period last year.

Sergeant Bruce Martin, of the Alexandra based rural drive group, said on Monday it was a ''very refreshing result'' and the anti-drink-drive message appeared to have sunk in for the most part.

The two police groups also operated in Queenstown and Wanaka.
