At the start of each month, the company sends him $200 worth of the latest products for boys his age.
The Maori Hill School pupil entered a competition to be one of the store's four toy testers, by submitting a short video about why he suited the role.
Tom was selected along with two Auckland children and another from Wellington.
Each would receive $2400 worth of new toys over the next 12 months.
Tom was asked to judge each product on its merits and submit a report at the end of the month.
His criteria is simple.
"It has to be fun to play with and not break really easily, or run out of batteries super fast," he said.
A Lego fan, Tom was stoked to discover the latest Lego Monster Fighters set among his first toys to review.
Others submitted for testing included a talking teddy bear, which recorded voices, a dart gun set, complete with safety glasses and T-shirts, an Optimus Prime transformer and an Angry Birds card game.
Tom's sisters Olivia (13) and Isabella (10) had offered to help him test products, as had his classmates at school.
