Dunedin Gasworks Museum organisers are "delighted" the museum has been chosen to host an open day this week, enabling people to respond to a proposal to revitalise South Dunedin.

Museum trust board member and operating manager John Heaven said that hosting the open day, to be held at the museum's Braemar St premises from 4pm to 7pm tomorrow, would boost the museum's profile and help it form closer links with the South Dunedin business community.

Another board member, Ann Barsby, said that being chosen to host the event was an honour and reflected positive recognition by the Dunedin City Council.

The city council's draft South Dunedin retail centre strategy consultation document suggests, among many other things, a "comprehensive" upgrade of the Cargills Corner intersection, to improve traffic flows and pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Council principal urban designer Steve Miles said the consultation document was widely available, including at some South Dunedin shops and at www.dunedin.govt.nz/ on the council's website.

South Dunedin retailers and other interested people were welcome to visit the museum, to learn more about it, and to provide feedback on ideas in the draft plan and involving the future of South Dunedin.

Council staff will be available to explain the process, discuss issues with visitors and record their responses.
