Frontier Touring head Brent Eccles said the pre-sale allocation was sold in about 20 minutes.
"There was so much demand the system was struggling to get them through,'' he said.
"It's going to be an awesome show, you're lucky buggers.''
The promoter announced a second show for Auckland following the start of the pre-sale.
However, no second show was planned for Dunedin at present, he said.

Delay for codes
The promoter of the Dunedin concert earlier warned last minute pre-sale hopefuls to expect delays in receiving the code necessary to access tickets.
In an email message to members, Frontier Touring said a high volume of traffic on its website had caused delays in sending out confirmation emails and pre-sale code reminders to new members.
"Never fear!'' the message said.
"Your pre-sale code will display on the confirmation page as soon as you've submitted your sign up. This is all that you need from Frontier to take part in the pre-sale, the transaction is done on the Ticketek or Ticketmaster website (depending on the show).
"Additionally - as soon as you’ve submitted your sign up, you should be able to log in to our website and find all your personalised details in the red MY PRE-SALE INFO section of Ed Sheeran’s tour page:
www.frontiertouring.com/edsheeran. Please use the log-in info you used when signing up.
"As we are receiving a large number of emails presently, there may be delays in receiving a response.''
The pre-sale for Dunedin's show began at 2pm today.
Meanwhile, Sheeran has added a second Auckland show to his tour plans for New Zealand following overwhelming demand for pre-sale tickets today.
Sheeran had already confirmed a date at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on March 24, before his Dunedin show on March 29.
But pre-sale demand was so high today that Sheeran added a second Auckland show - on Sunday, March 25 - to his itinerary "to meet demand".
Comments
How many tickets sold? Hopefully have better luck for the next round as didn't get anywhere this time despite being there for the start.
What was the pre-sale allocation?
So are there any left for general sale next Tuesday or is a second concert on the way.
PS: Got 4 :)
