Yesterday's second annual iD Dunedin Fashion Week Designer Sale was a hit with bargain-hunters.
About 500 people attended the sale, held at Lion Foundation Arena at the Edgar Centre, where bargains, many at below cost, could be found from high-profile designer labels from Nom*D to Suture and fashion stores from Waughs to Arthur Barnett.
The sale was part of the lead-up to iD Dunedin Fashion Week this week.
Organisers were not sure why there were fewer people this year - 800 attended last year's sale at the Glenroy Auditorium - but were still happy with the result.
By 10.45am a queue of about 50 women and two men snaked out the door of the Edgar Centre waiting for the sale, which began at 11am.
Dunedin woman Sue Owen and her daughters Caitlin and Helen Owen were surprised to find themselves first in the queue when they arrived at 10.05am.
They were going to make a beeline for Nom*D, they said, and were pleased to be at the front as the previous year people had been let in reasonably slowly and it was torturous having to wait to get in.
Once the doors opened shoppers headed straight to the two most popular stands, Charmaine Reveley and Nom*D.
Event organiser Charmaine Reveley said the sale was a great success.
"Last year was fantastic and this year the new venue allowed for a less frantic shopping experience. It was such a buzz with people flocking everywhere, desperate to find that bargain. What a great way to start iD's week of amazing fashion events."
The official launch of iD Dunedin Fashion Week is tomorrow, with an opening held at the Otago Daily Times.
Associated fashion events, public talks by guest judges and designers, exhibitions and tours will run throughout the week with the major shows, the iD International Emerging Designer Awards held on Thursday and the iD Fashion Shows on Friday and Saturday.
