Dunedin could be in for a boost in the presence of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) in the city, with discussions under way on an inner-city site for the organisation.
The news follows a visit yesterday by ACC chief executive Scott Pickering.
What was billed in yesterday's Dunedin City Council agenda as a ''heads of agreement to proceed with due diligence on [an] inner-city site'' was held in a non-public part of the council meeting.
But Mr Pickering was on hand to speak at the meeting, and an ACC spokeswoman told the Otago Daily Times late yesterday ACC was ''looking to increase our operations in Dunedin in a single location''.
''That's what today's discussion with the mayor and council was about.
''Due to commercial reasons we can't say anything further at this stage.''
Mayor Dave Cull said he could not discuss the matter yesterday, but more information would be made public today.
''It's a positive,'' he said of the issue.
