The hall was hired by a private group — whose identity has not been made public — for a party over the weekend of March 25 and 26.
A trail of destruction was left in their wake, including blood splattered on floors and walls, along with broken walls and glass.
Now, Dunedin City Council emails, obtained by the Otago Daily Times under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act, can reveal the full scope of the damage.
The damage was first reported on the Monday after the event and while the sticky floors were at first believed to have been due to spilt beer, blood smeared on the floors, walls and taekwondo mats was soon discovered.
One council employee said they were lost for words.
"What can one say? Outrageous," the employee said.
A query was also made about whether the keys had been returned or if locks needed to be changed.
In response a council employee said they had left a message with the hirer, asking if they could pick up the keys.
Arrangements were made to repair a smashed oven door in the hall’s kitchen.
Photographs of the damage show a broken window and at least five holes in the walls.
Allied Security was asked to provide overnight patrols and its regional manager confirmed that no further damage happened.
An urgent request for cleaning was logged on March 28 because another booking was looming.
By the end of the next afternoon it had been cleaned and the hall hirer had agreed pay for the damages, emails said.
