A fleeing driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a stolen car was found in a ditch near Mosgiel yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said a stolen car was observed being driven on State Highway1, near Waihola, heading north, about 4pm yesterday.

The car was followed at a distance, at road speed, by officers until road spikes were able to be deployed at East Taieri.

The spikes failed to stop the car and officers did not pursue it at that point.

The vehicle was located again about 4.25pm, having crashed into a small ditch in Dukes Rd.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, had a minor injury and was transported by police to Dunedin Hospital.
