Kelvin Bruce Wisely (48) last year pleaded guilty to nine charges relating to methamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis possession and conspiracy to supply methamphetamine.
In the Dunedin District Court today, Wisely was given concurrent sentences of seven years and 10 month's jail for supplying methamphetamine and possessing it or supply, six years for conspiracy to supply the class A drug, two years for cultivating cannabis and possessing it for supply and six months for possessing cocaine.
And Judge Michael Crosbie made an order that $25,110 police found in the defendant's bedroom should be forfeit to the Crown.
During a forfeiture hearing earlier today, Wisely argued the money was nothing to do with the drug sales but was from the sale of sheep meat and two motorcycles. He said he was saving it and using it for household and living expenses and mortgage payments.
The facts summary said the Dunedin Organised Crime squad became aware last year that the defendant was supplying methamphetamine on a commercial scale.
Wisely sent a package containing $39,500 in cash to an associate in Hamilton last July 17 as payment for ounces of methamphetamine he had previously sold.
Two days later, police intercepted another package addressed to Wisely's Milton home and found three ounces of methamphetamine.
When arrested the same day, Wisely said he had only been selling methamphetamine for several weeks. He had been approached ''with an offer that was too good to refuse'', he told police..
He said the money in the package was to pay for the first shipment of methamphetamine and he was not expecting a shipment in return.
